The War of 1812
The War of 1812, fought between 1812 and 1815, was a series of land and naval battles fought between the United States and Great Britain. Though a small war, it gave rise to a new spirit of nationalism (Roark, 2009). In this blog, we will explore the reasons leading to our country declaring war on Great Britain, providing geographical references for examination. The political roles played by groups such as the War Hawks and New York Federalists will be discussed, as well as the experiences of women and Indians during this time. Specific battles, including the British burning Washington, the Northern Invasion, later victories and Horseshoe Bend will be reviewed, ending with a summary of critical outcomes and the importance of this War.
